Currently, the ratio of tourism/gaming/entertainment sector employment to total employment is the highest in the nation, with one-third of Nevada’s workforce employed in these industries. The latest employment scorecard for the State of Nevada for August 2016 to August 2017 is listed below, based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Labor force growth of 1.17 percent is a positive for Nevada, but the labor force participation rate declined 0.4 percent to 61.6 percent. The unemployment rate declined 0.6 percent to 4.9 percent, but the decline in the participation rate may somewhat reflect people simply leaving the labor force. All in for Norfolk says the project will create 2,000 construction jobs and 2,500 permanent jobs. The biggest chunk of the jobs will be in gaming operations, which will pay anywhere from $60,000.
