Doritos Roulette Challenges

The kids do a doritos roulette challenge to see which chips are spicy and which are not, we also taste test sriracha chocolate!?!? We find a new way to ride hoverboards and a special someone tries it for the first time. The asthmatic teen later suffered a severe attack at school, which has now banned the Doritos Roulette snack and issued a warning letter to parents. Beth’s mum Dawn, 54, said: “It’s time.

Another cool example of Gamification is one you’ve probably heard of and is fairly recent. Doritos much like, their competitor Pringles (who I’ve done a post on previously), is known as quite a fun crisp company in the way they present themselves. Doritos in April 2015 launched their new packet of crisps, Dorito’s Chilli Roulette.

Before I get into the Dorito’s Chilli Roulette Challenge, I’ll let you know a little bit about the company Dorito’s themselves. Dorito’s were first introduced in 1964 as the much-loved tortilla chips they are today. Initially Dorito’s only had one flavour, which was toasted corn. It wasn’t until 1972 that they introduced another flavour, nacho-cheese (My personal favourite, Yum!). Dorito’s are owned by an American food company called Frito-Lay.

So now into what Dorito’s Chilli Roulette actually is. In the packet of tortilla chips is mostly the really nice tangy cheese flavour, however there is also some chilli hot flavour. Each time you have one you are hoping for the nice cheesy flavour and not to burn your mouth on the chilli hot ones.

Like my last post the best way to test this had to be trying it out for myself. So, I got a bag with a group of friends and tried it out. We took the bag and just kept going around with it till we had all backed out. One of my friends backed out before even playing because she has done this before and had some really hot ones. That left four of us and I started luckily with a nice cheesy one. As we were going around we all ended up some really hot chilli ones. By the end the three of us still playing all agreed to stop. If doing this again I would definitely get some milk beforehand because a can of fizzy juice I have discovered does not help when your mouth is burning. However more of the nice cheesy Doritos do help, but that is risking another hot one. As much as I have tasted things that are spicier the tortilla chips still did leave me with a burning mouth and my lip was burning a bit after.

As for a way of gamification I did find it quite interesting, but how successful was it really? It was fun to try with friends and I remember when it first came out it did get a lot of people talking about it. In this way, I feel it has been successful for Doritos. However, would I try it again with people? Probably not but it did make me want some regular Doritos. So it probably isn’t a best seller but it was fun and worth the try. Overall, I would say Dorito’s Chilli Roulette was a success for the company.

My question for you in this post would be have you tried the Chilli Roulette Doritos? What did you think of them and would you have them again if you did try them?
